Adele let her feelings be known when her acceptance speech was cut brief at the Brit Awards Tuesday night, flashing the middle finger as she was booted from the stage.
The 23-year-old wasted no time in apologizing, explaining that the gesture was meant for “the suits, not the fans.”
When she arrived at the podium to collect her award, Adele told the crowd: “Nothing makes me prouder than winning six Grammys and then coming back here to win album of the year. I’m so proud to be UK and to be flying the British flag.”
James Cordon arrived onstage to inform the singer that she had to cut it short since the program had gotten behind schedule & Blur had however to give the night’s closing performance. Taking a look at bit scared, he told Adele: “I’m so sorry, I cannot think I’m going to do this….”
Realizing that she couldn’t give the Finest Album acceptance she wanted, Adele said: “Oh alright, I’m sorry and I’ll see you this time subsequent year!”
She flipped the bird at the cameras, MIA style, and stalked offstage.
Backstage, she apologized before gathered members of the media. “Can I just say sorry for swearing? I flung the middle finger at the suits, not the fans, I want folks to know that. Sorry if I offended anybody, though the people in the suits offended me. I wasn’t swearing at the fans, however I didn’t get to complete my thank you speech!”
The star wasn’t up for any heavy post-Brits celebrating, as her recent surgery means that she can not party too challenging: “I’m going to celebrate though I cannot drink. I’m not allowed.”
Speaking about all of her recent triumphs, Adele mentioned: “It is phenomenal. It seems to have done it all on its own. The record carried on walking while my voice was bad, it’s amazing.”
